Philosophy
St. John Child Care Center's philosophy is to instill values and education skills in a warm, caring, yet disciplined environment.
We believe that each child has the right:
- To be treated with dignity.
- To be free to explore, question and solve problems.
- To be provided with activities appropriate for the child's development level.
- To be provided with fair and consistent guidance to aid the child in developing self-control and a sense of responsibility for their actions.
- To be provided with a safe and healthy atmosphere in which to grow and flourish as an individual.
- To be provided with a well educated and caring staff.
Program
St. John Preschool and Daycare Center, serving children from age 3 to 5 years, offers a morning program from 8:30am to 11:30am, Monday through Friday. We are also a quality daycare center open from 6:30am to 5:30pm.
St. John Preschool has a semi structured curriculum designed to help each child discover, explore and expand individual interests and abilities at their own rate of development. A learning center approach is used.
A preschool evaluation will be done on each child to assess his or her social, self help, cognitive, motor and language skills. This will determine which activities a child may need help in.
Weekly themes are presented with related art, music, stories, and circle time activities. Concepts such as color, shapes, senses, numbers, alphabet, nutrition, space, holidays, circus, science, to name a few, are presented throughout the year.
Goals
The primary goal of St. John's Preschool & Daycare is to provide for each child an atmosphere of warmth and care, as an extension of that given by the child's own family. Within this atmosphere, our goals are that each child:
- Will come to realize their own importance and capacities as individuals.
- Will be provided with learning activities appropriate for his or her age. These activities will include:
- Socialization skills, with peers and adults.
- Large-fine motor skills (fine and gross motor development).
- Appreciation of fine arts.
- Cognitive skills.
- Learn and grow through their curiosity, exploration, and various learning activities appropriate for each age.
- Be provided with nutritious, well-balanced snacks and meals.
- Will have a safe area, free from physical hazards and contagious illness as possible, in which to thrive and grow.
Our goal is to function as a parent support system, which provides a viable link between the working parent and child.
Enrollment
We offer full day, Monday through Friday enrollments, or part-time morning preschool sessions, with parental choice of days. Children will be enrolled from the registration list on the basis on the child's age and schedule needs. When and opening occurs, the parents are called and enrollment procedures begin. At enrollment, the parents state on the contracted Enrollment Form the days and hours of care of preschool needed. Thus, this portion of the form becomes the child's permanent schedule. ANY CHANGES IN THIS PERMANENT SCHEDULE MUST BE DISCUSSED WITH THE DIRECTOR. There is no guarantee that we will be able to accept a schedule change.
